welcome to knit lawrence

In recent years, knitting has experienced an amazing boom in popularity, as young people have turned to the craft for a host of reasons: to create original garments, to relieve stress, or simply to pass time. In an age when cheap socks, hats, mittens and sweaters are readily available at big box retailers, the knitter chooses to invest hours in homemade clothing.

Why?

Many knitters themselves may ponder this question. For some, the rhythmic action of two wooden sticks and a strand of wool becomes mesmerizing and therapeutic, and soon the end goal of a new pair of socks fades into the background. For others, originality is the key: these knitters roam yarn stores blending colors and textures that perfectly suit their tastes or strike out on their own to design the sweater they have always wanted but could never find in stores. Still others simply cannot sit still and use knitting as an outlet for a permanent case of the wiggles. Many of us can easily identify with all of these reasons.

What kind of knitter are you? If you are the kind of knitter that is interested in sharing your experiences and helping new knitters along their journey, please join us for coffee and conversation. We meet (and knit) on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at the Community Mercantile in Lawrence. Check out the Events page for more details.
